Now being a very small and not very case friendly, I wanted to have every connection accessible from a single place, so I made short work of an old USB motherboard header extension and attached it into the matching hole that I dremeled out of the I/O shield. The same thing was also done with the power input jack for the power supply board to keep all the wires in one place.

With the system all securely installed inside the new case, I tested it inside the car to work out whatever kinks that would come up. The main problem that seemed to come up was the lack of ventilation, as the cramped metal box would often feel hot to the touch after a few hours of usage. The problem was easily fixed, however, with the addition of a 120mm blowhole cut on the top of the case, and an exhaust vent cut on the opposite side of the I/O shield, covered by a piece of aluminum mesh.

Of course, being a low powered system, it didn’t need all the airflow and noise that the 120mm fan was capable of dishing out, so I just undervolted the fan to run at 7V. Here you can see the fan taped to the case for a mock-up test prior to being permanently epoxied to the blowhole.
