MODTHEBOX would like to thank Jacque from The Card Cooler
for sending the Crystal Neon Optical Mouse for review.
Introduction:
From its humble beginnings as a wooden contraption with one red button and two wheels to the modern Wireless Dual
Optical, the mouse has come along way from its original concept by Dr Douglas Engelbart. The first widespread use of
the mouse came in 1983, when the Apple Lisa became a public hit (an idea Steve Jobs "borrowed" from Xerox, who didn’t
quite know what to do with the technology). As the technology matured, there have been many "cool" looking mice with
variable performance over the past thirty odd years. The latest product to hit the consumer market is the Crystal
Neon Optical Mouse, available through our friends at The Card Cooler out of Ogden, Utah. Today in the MTB Labs, we are
taking a look at the Crystal Neon Optical Mouse, a product which is cross platform compatible with the PC and Macintosh
line of computers.
Specifications:
The Crystal Neon Optical Mouse is available in two styles both silver and clear. For this review I will be using the
clear optical mouse version. The clear version is smoked in nature, but you can still see through the acrylic shell.
Here are some specifications taken from the retail packaging and The Card Cooler website:

The oval shaped Crystal Neon Optical Mouse loosely resembles that of the popular clear mouse available for the
Macintosh line of computers and even acts similarly since there are no buttons. The mouse is comprised of two body
parts, one upper shell and the other lower foot. The two halves are connected at the front and rear of the mouse
allowing it to pivot along the length of the body. Along the perimeter of the bottom near the mouse feet is a single
oval shaped white plastic which allows the mouse to glide across most surfaces evenly. The mouse cord is made from clear
tubing that covers the foil silver wrapped wires.

Included in the package was a green USB to PS/2 port adapter that typically comes with most USB optical mice, an
instruction pamphlet, a finger guide and an installation CD. On the CD are the drivers for Windows 98 through Windows
XP as well as drivers for the Mac OS 8.5 and above. If you still have Windows 95, you must use the PS/2 adapter since
Windows 95 does not fully support USB capabilities.
