MODTHEBOX would like to thank Allan and Silvia from BeanTech International for providing the BT-80 Clear Acrylic Computer Case for review.

BeanTech International

Introduction:

Acrylic computer enclosures are nothing new to the consumer market and case modding community. Originally used as a means for educational purposes, the standard acrylic case has transended from the hands of system builders to DIY computer enthusiasts. Most of the earlier concepts for replicating an ATX case design were home grown but recently their have been several manufacturers marketing new and revised computer enclosures. My first experience with an acrylic case was over 2 years ago with a mid-tower case developed by Canadian company ClearPC. BeanTech International based out of Taipei, Taiwan is a professional manufacturer of cases, rack mounts, storage solutions, USB hubs, hard disk drive mobile racks, and associated products. Established in the millennium, BeanTech has risen rapidly to the front ranks with a brand new offering of acrylic and aluminium based case products for the consumer market. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the new BT-80 Clear Acrylic Computer Case, a complete see through ATX case enclosure.

Specifications:

The BT-80 Clear Acrylic Computer Case is the one of many consumer based cases offered by BeanTech and is available in several configurations including an alternative green coloured model called the BT-84 "Emerald Dream". The BT-80 is the very first acrylic based case to hit the consumer market and is based on a mid-tower configuration. Here are some of the case specifications taken directly from the BeanTech website:

The BeanTech BT-80 Clear Acrylic Computer Case was shipped in a standard double-walled corrugated box with the case manufacturer's logos and images printed on all sides. The packaging inside the box was excellent using a unique solution to protect and keep the BT-80 case stationary. A "U" shapped cardboard support surrounds the case and each corner is protected using a series of polystyrene blocks. Removing the case from the package is easily done by using two handles on either side. By placing your hands on both handles, all that is required is to pull the case upward to remove it from the packaging. I was pleased to see that additional attention was placed on protecting the case during the shipping process.

The case itself is wrapped with two additional rolls of protective plastic wrap. A warning sticker is placed on the side of the case emphasizing some assurance to visually inspect the case for issues prior to use. Inside the packaging was a single page of instructions with detailed photos providing an overview of the BT-80 as well as some instructions on how to proceed with mounting any hardware components inside this case. The package also included a set of white gloves to assist with handling and keeping fingerprints off the case enclosure. Here is an entire list of what was included in the packaging:
  • 1 x BT-80 Clear Acrylic Computer Case
  • 10 x motherboard plastic stand-offs
  • 17 x M3 - 6mm short mounting screws
  • 34 x M3 - 9mm long mounting screws
  • 1 x Dual USB and IEEE1394 Firewall extension cable
  • 1 x pair of protective white gloves
  • 1 x sheet of instructions
