MODTHEBOX would like to thank John from Jab-Tech
for sending the Digital Doc 5 TNG Kit for review.
Introduction:
Temperature monitoring devices for a typical computer system is not known as a new concept in the
computer industry. While there have been many such devices to hit the market, the MacPower Digital Doc
has been one of the most popular monitoring devices amoung enthusiasts. The Digital Doc 5 has a long
standing reputation for the ability to monitor system voltages, fan rotation as well as temperature
variations located inside a case. Today in the MTB Labs, we will take a look at the next generation of
the Digital Doc 5 series made by MacPower and sent to us by Jab-Tech, out of Huguenot, NY.

The Digital Doc 5 is an all inclusive package which comes pre-assembled and is available in three
different front bezel colours (black, silver and beige). This product is being marketed as the lastest
revision in the Digital Doc series and provides temperature monitoring & fan control for up to 8 fans.
Consumers have the ability to monitor 8 different temperatures with support for high performance fans
rannging from 60mm and 120mm fans with a max of 12 watts or 1000mA. Here are some specifications taken

The Digital Doc 5 TNG Kit comes in a formed Perspex package suitable for hanging with a laminated
cardboard backing outlining the features and quick notes on installation. The CD manual is positioned
so one cannot see the amount of wiring underneath, however I’m convinced this may have been intentional
as some novices may be put off by the amount of wiring required by the Digital Doc 5 for a complete
installation.

Digital Doc 5 CD software

The sample unit supplied by Jab-Tech is the black version, however beige and silver front bezel versions
are also offered, depending on colour requirements and if colour is an issue. Instead of a printed
version, the manual is supplied on CD in Adobe Acrobat format and can be viewed by downloading the
reader program from the Adobe website. The reader
can run under Windows, Macintosh and UNIX based operating systems without losing the layout properties.
It is recommended that you print and read the manual before installing the Digital Doc 5 TNG Kit into
a computer since the setup can be a bit confusing and involved.

The Digital Doc 5 TNG unit incorporates a built-in LCD panel which is positioned on the left hand side
of the unit. The LCD panel is feature rich and will display a wide variety of statistical information
including system temperatures, unit settings, fan rotations and current fan voltage. The information
is displayed in a manner that one can quickly glance at the display and assess what is happening to
a computer system.
