One of the first practical applications for the Dremel MultiPro 395 is case modification. A standard window modification is one of the simpler projects for novice users since there are so many available easy to use window kits currently on the market. Before beginning any project make sure that you take the necessary precautions and use protective eyewear. The first step is to use a ruler and black marker to measure and mark off the various panel obstructions including the ventilation holes, case handles and 2 cm barrier for the panel clips. A metal washer is used to draw a 3/8" gap around the outside diameter of the window. The 3/8" gap will serve to secure the window in place using the black window molding and locking strap.

Once the window cut out has been drawn on the side panel, the next step is to get the MultiPro 395 ready for use. For this standard premium rectangular window, I will be using the Dremel MultiPro 395 along with a few re-enforced cut-off discs. With the basic window design cut, all the sharp edges are deburred using a grinding stone and a sanding bit.

The cutting phase for the window kit has now been completed and the next step is the installation of the 3ft black window trim and locking strap. The window trim is run along the edge of the window opening with the rounded side of the molding facing out. Once the trim is in place, the protective paper backing is removed from the acrylic window. The installation of the window is done inside the window trim by gently pulling and pushing the molding inward and then slipping the window into the groove. This process is repeated until the entire acrylic window is seated in the molding groove. Once the acrylic window has been secured, the last step is the installation of the locking strap. The locking strap re-enforces the installation of the window and seals the groove forming a tighter fit for the molding. To finish off the window a regular radiation window appliqué is added which can be backlighted by a nice complimentary cold cathode tube.
