The front of the Icy Dock Bodyguard525 features a black and silver trimmed LCD panel that slides to the right revealing a fan speed adjustment and temperature probe selector switch. One thing that was apparent is that fingers do not easily manipulate both the knob and switch since both options are recessed into the device. A small screw driver or flat thin object is needed to adjust the fan speed or select the temperature.

The Icy Dock Bodyguard525 features a tool-less hard drive installation which the manual calls the "HDD mounting fixer". The fixer pivots from the side of the rack and has a thumb screw affixed to the end. On the bottom of the rack is four alignment pins with thick blue rubber grommets or anti-shock pillars as referenced in the mamual. The anti-shock pillars line up with the screw holes under the hard drive for easy installation. With the anti-shock pillars in place, any hard drive installed into this device will be cushioned during transportation and protected from accidental jolting or vibrations during normal use.

The Icy Dock Bodyguard525 uses two Adda brushless 40mm fans, mounted on the left side, model number AD0412MS-G76. The fans push an average of 5.7 CFM each of air across the hard drive at a speed of 4800 RPM. An interesting point to note is that only one fan is in operation at a time, one cools the hard drive, while the other will start if the first one fails. If the primary fan fails, the redundancy fan will operate automatically, giving one piece of mind that heat will not be an issue. From the back beside the fan connector a small switch selects the drives status between master and slave.
