Thermaltake

Introduction:

Thermaltake is no stranger to the case modding market and has established themselves as a market leader by developing a wide range of products ranging from CPU coolers, fan control devices and cases. The company has recently shifted its focus and has been developing new products designed specifically for enhancing of the appearance of a standard case. The company's flagship case; the Xaser III is well known and offers an abundance of features equipped with an illuminated front bezel. Thermaltake has released an add-on accessory product for this case, but the kit itself will work any standard case with a free 5.25" drive bay. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the Thermaltake Xview Kit, a product that will illuminate a standard 5.25" drive bay using printable transparent sheets.

Specifications:

The Thermaltake XView is an all-inclusive kit that includes all the necessary components for installation. Installation of this product can be completed in less than 30 minutues with no additional tools required. Here are some of the specifications taken directly from the Thermaltake website:

There are a number of parts in the kit, including the Xview unit itself, several pre-made inserts, a sound sensitive adjustable dual inverter, a CD full of pre-made inserts to be printed on the included transparency sheets, and a second EL strip. The Xview unit is simply a 5.25" bay cover with a hole in the back to allow the EL strip wires through that will illuminate any image.

The Thermaltake Xview relies on the EL sheeting which provides a backlight against the printed transparent insert while secured in the acrylic cover. The inverter features an aluminum knob for sensitivity, a bright green LED and a microphone. On one side is a 3-position switch which selects between off, continuous on, or sound sensitive, depending on the consumers preference. As with any inverter, once powered there is a slight whine from the unit, which should disappear once it warms up. The inverter connects to a spare power supply connector or inline with another device.
