MODTHEBOX would like to thank Helen from Yeong Yang Technology for providing the YY-5601 Mid-Tower Case for review.

Yeong Yang Technology

Introduction:

The popularity of case modification has created a brand new viable market for case manufacturers. For consumers who lack the patience and skill, there is an alternative solution offered in pre-modified case products. Just about every major case manufacturer currently offers their products in two standard formats, modified and un-modified. Modified cases often included additional features, which enhance both the aesthetic appeal and functionality of a product. While some manufacturers fall into the trap of offering features that are duplicated worldwide, Yeong Yang Technology based out of Taiwan has taken an alternative approach to releasing a series of stylish mid-tower cases. The Yeong Yang Group was founded in 1978 and initially specialized in metal pressed production. In 1990, Yeong Yang launched into its own PC chassis business and now it manufactures and distributes a full-range PC and Server chassis worldwide. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be taking an exclusive look at the latest product offering from Yeong Yang Technology, the YY-5601 Mid-Tower Case.

Specifications:

The YY-5601 Mid-Tower Case is one of many consumer based cases offered by Yeong Yang Technology and comes complete with all the functionality found in more expensive models. The specifications of the YY-5601 are simular to that of your classic mid-tower case and is generally suited for consumers looking for a complete low cost mid-tower solution. The Yeong Yang YY-5601 Mid-Tower Case was shipped directly from the Taiwan Headquarters and arrived in a standard double-walled corrugated cardboard box. The package was slightly heavy weighting in at 40 lbs and had no distinct markings other than a small Yeong Yang logo and a packaging slip. Upon opening up the box, the case is sealed with protective plastic and secured by two pieces of polystyrene, which is located on the bottom. The package included a two-page reference sheet, which provides a summarized feature list, case specifications and pictures of an alternative model called the YY-5602 or "Scutum".

Out of the box, my first impressions of the Yeong Yang YY-5601 Mid-Tower Case were very positive. After having brief conversations via e-mail with Yeong Yang's contact, I was expecting another re-hashed mid-tower case with a window installed on the side panel. It was refreshing to see the company move towards a more modern stylized case, which offers a sleek look suitable for home or an office environment. The YY-5601 measures approximately 200mm (W) x 493mm (D) x 440mm (H), weighs 8.9kg and supports all MATX and ATX motherboards. The entire exterior has been painted jet black with silver highlights noted on the front bezel. The front bezel has a great futuristic type look that is replicated from the top portion of the bezel to the bottom. The composition of the YY-5601 is made up of a solid Steel chassis combined with recycled flame retardant plastic parts. By default the YY-5601 does include a 310w PSU, which should be suitable for most consumers needs.
