MODTHEBOX would like to thank Cathy from EndPCNoise
for sending the FSP Group 460 Watt ATX Server Power Supply for review.
Introduction:
A quality power supply is one of the key components to a successful stable machine. This holds true for
almost any system configuration from servers, workstations to power hungry modified gaming rigs. The
community surrounding silent pc’s has been subjected to a sudden increase in popularity in which new
passive and liquid cooled products have been derived to provide optimum temperatures with minimal
associated noise levels to todays latest hardware. There are several products currently available pertaining
to silent computing such as passive cooling solutions, sound dampening foam, fan control devices, liquid
cooling systems and more. With the right combination of design and products, the subtlest of noises
become blatantly apparent. One of the more common components that fail victim to this is the Power
Supply. Today in MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the FSP Group FSP460-60PFN Quiet Power Supply from
EndPCNoise.
Specifications:
The FSP Group FSP460-60PFN Quiet Power Supply is currently the largest available power supply listed on

The FSP460-60PFN Quiet Power Supply shipped in a simple non-retail cardboard box. Inside the unit was
tightly packaged and wrapped in bubble wrap and Styrofoam peanuts to prevent any damage. It is my
assumption that the lack of retail packaging is relating to the review sample status. No additional
cables or accessories were included with the FSP460-60PFN Quiet Power Supply. Out of the box, my initial
impressions of the unit were average, being geared strictly on sound levels and performance; the FSP460-60PFN
Quiet Power Supply carries a basic appearance to match.

The rear portion of the FSP460-60PFN Quiet Power Supply is fairly standard housing most of the common
features found on power supplies. The right hand side facilitates an over sized ON/OFF switch along with
a single AC plug connector located below. While not used in North America, absent from the rear is any
form of switch used to toggle between 115/230V modes. Being geared towards high performance machines and
severs; I was surprised not to see an additional AC output, which could be used to power a monitor amongst
other devices.

A single 80mm exhaust fan accented with a chrome fan guard resides at the rear left. Unlike other units,
the FSP460-60PFN Quiet Power Supply only accommodates a single exhaust fan. In order to aid in overall
cooling, the front portion features a series of ventilation slits. The lack of active cooling present on
the FSP460-60PFN Quiet Power Supply will help to keep associated noise levels down yet overall operating
temperatures remain in question.
