Introduction:
The SOHO market has provided several unique opportunities for small business owners to adapt components
which suit their working environment and lifestyle. In the past where consumers would purchase several
components to complete multiple tasks, all-in-solutions have simplified this process. A typical office
worker will spend at least 6-8 hours in front a CRT or LCD-TFT monitor. In order to address growing
concerns regarding visual and repetitive strain disorders, many manufacturers have started producing
ergonomic based products for the consumer market. Ergonomic products currently encompass everything
ranging from desks, chairs, mouse pads, document holders and a large selection of computer accessories.
Samsung Canada offers a wide range of CRT and LCD-TFT monitors marketed under the popular SyncMaster
banner. The company has previously released several ergonomic based products and this year had marketed
several new revisions. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the SyncMaster 173B TFT-LCD Monitor,
a middle-end LCD-TFT that offers several ergonomic based features into an all-in-one solution.

The Samsung SyncMaster 173B TFT-LCD Monitor ships in a double wall cardboard box with a plastic carry-on
handle positioned on the top. A product shot is showcased on the top and side panels, along with a
complete list of specifications and features. Inside the package the SyncMaster 173B was packed
between two formed pieces of polystyrene and enclosed in a sealed protective plastic bag.

The SyncMaster 173B TFT-LCD Monitor also includes a smaller plastic bag which contains an assortment
of items including video, audio and power cables. The packaged CD contains the TFT-LCD monitor user
guide, installation drivers and a software application called Natural Colour. The Natural Colour
application software allows you to manual adjust display optimization, colour adjustment and colour
preference settings all from your desktop. An eight page user guide covers the driver installation for
different O/S platforms ranging from all flavours of Windows to Linux. A secondary manual covers the
hardware installation and recommended safety procedures.
One new additional that has been added to the SyncMaster 173B TFT-LCD Monitor package is the inclusion
of Pivot Pro
software from Portrait Displays Inc. Pivot Pro software lets you rotate your computer display from
landscape to portrait orientation, making documents, e-mail and web browsing easier to manage. The software
supports all rotating orientations: portrait 90, presentation 180, portrait 270, and landscape and
works with multiple monitor configurations in Windows 2000 and XP.
