The PCMods Rheobus v2.0 unit is simular to the E-Compuvision Maelstrom Rheobus controller which was featured in the MTB Labs two months ago. Both units utilize voltage regulators which take the minimum and maximum output voltage specifications for a fixed value (i.e. 12v) and regulate the voltage from 0v all the way to up 11.25v. This added benefit allows you to change the voltage on a regular 12v fan and adjust the RPM speed by turning the rheostats clockwise or counter clockwise. On the back of the unit is a row of screw terminals for connecting the red (12V) and black (ground) wires for the fans. Each terminal is clearly labelled so that the orientation of the wires cannot be confused during the setup phase.

Removable socketed LED's

One of the newer features of the PCMods Rheobus v2.0 is the inclusion of socketed LEDs on the PCB board. This may not sound like a big deal, but it is a great addition for the case modding community. No longer are modders restricted to the stock blue leds which were shipped with the first generation of the rheobus. You can now easily mix and match your LEDs for aesthetics or to designate a specific function on your case. If you can visualize matching knobs with matching LEDs, its the perfect solution for keeping the aesthetic appearance of a case theme universal.

The assembly of the PCMods Rheobus v2.0 Kit requires some additional tools, which must be supplied by the user. A high-powered drill and 1/4" and 3/8" drill bit are recommended as well as a small flathead screwdriver, dremel (optional) and drive bay plate. To drill out the mounting holes for the rheostats, you must mount the acrylic drilling template on top of the drive bay plate using the adhestive pads. Drilling time was approximately 10 minutes and once the PCMods Rheobus v2.0 is mounted behind the drive plate all that remains is attaching the aluminum knobs using the hexagon allen key.
