MODTHEBOX would like to thank Elise from Aspire International Corp for providing the Aspire Aluminum ATX-AS500W PSU for review.

Aspire International

Introduction:

Case modification has gained in popularity transitioning away from an enthusiast’s hobby into the mainstream spotlight. In the past where traditional stock cases were the mainstream items to be modified, we now see this practice being spread to peripheral devices and hardware components. The pre-modified market has now provided the opportunity for the novice computer user to have a fully customized PC that looks factory assembled. Aspire International has been one of the new emerging companies to embrace the pre-modified market with a suite of products targeted for case modders world wide. This year the company has released its new flagship case the new X-Superalien and introduced several complimentary add-on components. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the new Aspire Aluminum ATX-AS500W PSU, a product that combines dual fan cooling options and aesthetic appeal into an all-in-one solution.

Out of the box, the Aspire Aluminum ATX-AS500W PSU has an aesthetically pleasing design. The exterior of the PSU has been encased in a black anodized aluminum chassis while the top portion has been covered in a see through acrylic shell. The unit measures approximately 150mm x 168.5mm x 86mm and is slightly heavier than most steel based power supplies on the market. By default this unit comes with two 80mm Blue UV sensitive ball bearing fans, which are positioned on either side of the unit for optimal cooling. The Aspire Aluminum ATX-AS500W PSU did not ship with any instruction manual but includes a few built-in features such as Short Circuit Protection, Over Voltage and Over Current Protection. These features are designed to safe guard any components that are attached to this unit and is comparable to surge protection found on most standard power bar strips. Additional accessories also include one power cord and four chrome thumb screws.
