Before using the Xenarc 700TSV 7" Touch Screen VGA LCD Monitor, the included manual recommends installing the TouchKit application software that is bundled with the package. The installation is straightforward process and requires running the setup executable for the operating system platform of your choice.

Once the installation process is completed, you'll need to unplug the Xenarc 700TSV 7" Touch Screen VGA LCD Monitor from the USB port, reboot your system and then replug in the unit in order for the plug and play feature to detect the device. In this example, I am installing the TouchKit on the Windows XP Professional platform.

After completing the installation of the TouchKit application software I re-plugged in the USB cable connector and noticed that the operating system did not automatically detect any new USB devices. Thinking that the cable wasn't plugged in properly, I reseated the cable in the USB port on the back my motherboard and again no new devices were detected on the system. To confirm my findings, I checked the Hardware Device Manager in Windows XP and the TouchKit software itself and did not see the Touch Screen Controller listed. The problem seemed to replicate itself on 5 different systems that I tested which resulted in the same results over and over again.

In an attempt to the solve the problem, I contacted Bytewize Computers who forwarded me to Xenarc Technologies for support. I had speculated that the problem itself was in the bundled cable that was included in the kit. After leaving a few voice messages and e-mails it wasn't until 48 hours later that I finally received response from their technical support group acknowledging that the cable issue has been a reported problem. I was provided a wiring diagram with the proper connections and spliced the cable in order to resolder all the proper connections.

I re-plugged the USB cable connector back into my motherboard and finally got a confirmation from Windows XP that the Touch Screen Controller for Xenarc 700TSV was detected. This was confirmed in the Hardware Device Manager and in the TouchKit application software. With the software now working there are a few options that you can run to set up your own configuration preferences in terms of calibration tests, mouse sensitivity and dual monitor support. A small Touch Monitor application runs in the task tray and allows you to switch left and right mouse button options on the fly. After playing around with this type of setup for a few hours, it does take some time to adjust to in order to be productive.
