MODTHEBOX would like to thank Cathy from EndPCNoise for sending the Smart Drive 2002 Hard Drive Enclosure for review.

EndPCNoise

Introduction:

Hard disk enclosures are often used in server or mass storage environments to simplify replacements and upgrades. The case modification boom as since brought a wave new of options to this useful design. While there are several of the new disk enclosures available, many focus solely on aesthetics or attempt to bundle multiple features to distract you from the lack of functionality or performance. Today in MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the Smart Drive 2002, a product designed strictly to bring silent performance to a noisy hard drive.

Specifications:

The Smart Drive 2002 is an all aluminum hard drive enclosure which is designed to provide reduced acoustic levels of approximately 4 decibels to both parallel and serial ATA based hard drives. Currently, the only available color on the EndPCNoise website is black. Here are some specifications as stated on the EndPCNoise website:

Smart Drive 2002 Hard Drive Enclosure - Key Features:
Smart Drive 2002 Hard Drive Enclosure: Distributed by EndPCNoise
Dimensions: 6.95" (D) x 5.7" (W) x 1.3" (H)
Weight: 1.8Lbs
Noise Dampening: The Smart Drive Enclosure quiets hard drive noise by at least 4 decibels (difference is greater with a noisier hard drive)
Compatibility: The Smart Drive can be mounted in the forward or back position of your 5.25" hard drive bay and works with 3.5" hard drives
Reusability: The Smart Drive 2002 is completely re-usable (the hard drive can be removed and replaced when you upgrade your computer)

The Smart Drive 2002 comes packaged in a cardboard retail packaging with the product name boldly printed across the front portion of the package. Included with the Smart Drive 2002 is the unit itself along with a 4-pin Molex power connector and a series of mounting screws. The product is manufactured overseas by a company called Grow Up Japan and is currently distributed only by EndPCNoise.

The front portion of the Smart Drive 2002 is constructed from an anodized black aluminum and is designed for a single 5.25" bay usage. The Smart Drive 2002 name along with the words "silent & cool" and the Grow Up Japan website address are printed in white directly onto the front bay. A set of mounting holes and ventilation grooves run the side of the unit allowing for the Smart Drive 2002 to be recessed behind a standard 5.25" bay to keep the unit out of sight. The Smart Drive 2002 exterior shell is constructed entirely from black anodized aluminum and measures 6.95" (D) x 5.7" (W) x 1.3" (H) with a weight of 1.8 pounds. Absent from the front portion is any form of hard disk activity LED.
