Introduction:
For many computer enthusiasts having two computers also means having two monitors, keyboards and mice.
This leads to more and more desk office space being taken up by multiple peripherals. To resolve this
problem, a few manufacturers have started manufacturing KVM switch type products for the consumer market.
A KVM or Keyboard Video Mouse switch, allows a user to share one Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse between multiple
computers. Most KVM switches come with multiple ports, cables and packaged application software. To
simplify adding the convenience of a KVM switch, StarTech has developed a simple and easy to use switch
that effectively takes up next to no desk space. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the
StarTech 2-port PC Switcher KVM Switch.

The StarTech PC Switcher KVM Switch arrived in a form-fitting package displaying the switch component in the centre of
the package. At the top of the packaging and on the sides you will find a summarized list of the features. On the back of
the packaging, there is an illustrated panel showing how to install and connect the switch between two
computer systems.

Inside the package we find the switch itself with the built-in cables, an instruction booklet and a reference sticker.
The 11-page instruction guide contains; installation instructions, hot-key commands, in-depth troubleshooting and
other useful information. After seeing the instruction guide, as well as the quick reference sticker, I feel that
StarTech has succeeded in providing not only a KVM switch but also a complete package.
