Without the use of instructions, mounting the PolarFLO Universal CPU Water Block SF requires a series of steps and must be installed before the motherboard is mounted inside a case. To keep the water block stationary, four screws are inserted into a nylon washer from the bottom of the motherboard. The four screws are covered with a set of nylon washers and thumb nuts in each corner. The water block is inserted onto each screw and pushed down onto the dye of the CPU core to establish contact. In order to secure the water block, a nylon knurled nut is placed on each screw and tightened using a criss-cross pattern. Consumers should use extra caution when performing this step as over tightening the water block can crush the CPU core and render the CPU useless. Prior to mounting the PolarFLO Universal CPU Water Block SF a thin layer of Artic Silver Ceramique Thermal Compound was applied to the core of the CPU.

I was a little disappointed that the Horse of Iron choose to include nylon based screws and bolts instead of more durable stainless steel. The nylon components are good at preventing any shorts once the water block is mounted but distract away from the overall look of the PolarFLO Universal CPU Water Block SF. There were also no springs included in the package to counter balance the weight of the water block once secured in place. As an alternative users concerned about using this approach to installing this kit with an AMD processor can opt to use the AMD mounting kit instead.

For the purposes of this review, I decided to mount the PolarFLO Universal VGA/CS Water Block on a MSI GF4 Ti-4200 video card. The stock cooling fan was first removed and the GPU core was cleaned using a isopropyl alcohol wipe.

A thin layer of Artic Silver Ceramique Thermal Paste was applied to the GPU Core using a squeegee. The GPU water block is then placed on top of the GPU in order to mount the universal clipping mechanism. The clipping mechanism fits over the GPU base and uses two adjustable clamps to align itself with the fan mounting holes on the PCB of the video card. Once positioned properly, all that is required is to insert the appropriate mounting screw into each hole and secure it into place.
