The front of the SilenX 400w 14 dBA Power Supply sports a very open ventilated front, therefore improving airflow. In the opening you can get a faint view of a large cooling heatsink. On top of the unit is the copy of the raiting chart for the 400W version.

On the rear of the unit are a series of rubber grommets located on the fan mounts. A chrome fan grill can be found on the outside of the chassis and is covered by the rubber grommets. This is a great addition to reducing the noise from the fan vibrations. There is also a standard toggle on/off switch, voltage selector and the inlet connector. Here is a description of the fan itself from the SilenX website:

"The unique fan blade design along with its high-tech hybrid immersion bearings and silicone composite fan vibration dampening system makes this the only power supply on the market truly aimed for the silencing professional."

Once the external cover is removed off the SilenX 400w 14 dBA Power Supply, there are two very large heatsinks that are positioned in such a way to fully use the air from the fan. Everything is well place so as not to interfere with the airflow. The capacitors are tucked away on the left side underneath the heatsink. After having installed the power supply and turning it on, it was so quiet that I thought I had done something wrong. I couldn’t even hear the fan running and had to check with my hand that it was indeed spinning. Compared to another generic power supply and the Vantec Stealth PSU that I had in the test area, I found that the SilenX was the quietest of all, lending credibility of their claim of being the quietest power supply in town.
