MODTHEBOX would like to thank Chris from The Cutting Edge
for sending the Kingwin KT424-BK Aluminum Case for review.
Introduction:
The aluminum chassis definitely represents a niche market in which a certain level of quality and construction are
expected. Products from manufactures such as Cooler Master and Lian Li have produced the largest impact and set the
standards amongst all other chassis in this class. The often high associated price tag of owning an aluminum chassis
has slowly stabilized to a more acceptable figure thanks to a breed of budget oriented offerings. The mid-range based
enclosures incorporate the welcome aesthetics along with similar functionally and features of a luxury model all at
an appealing price point. Today in MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the Kingwin KT424-BK Aluminum case.
Specifications:
The Kingwin KT424-BK is one of the four available models from the recent KT 424 chassis product line. Users have other
options from the KT 424 line up which include a pre-modified blue side panel window. The Kingwin KT424-BK is an all
aluminum mid-tower targeted towards the budget case market. Unique features include a slide out motherboard tray,
shock-absorbing system to promote greater silence from disk drives, front USB/Firewire and more. Here are some
specifications taken directly from the Kingwin and Cutting Edge websites:

The Kingwin KT424-BK Aluminum Case ships in a retail corrugated box braced with the Kingwin Logo and a clear product
shot across the front. Key highlights and several smaller detailed images can be found at the rear of the packaging.
Two pieces of polystyrene blocks hold the case vertically and prevent any damage during transit.

Out of the box, my initial impressions of the Kingwin KT424-BK were very positive. Incorporating several design
characteristics from rival popular aluminum models, the KT424-BK appears to be a hybrid in design of a Cooler
Master and Lian Li. The KT424-BK is and ATX based case constructed entirely from 2.00mm aluminum-mg alloy and
measures 440mm (H) x 208mm (W) x 500mm (D) with a weight of 20 lbs. As previously mentioned, the Kingwin KT424
is available in two different designs and colors for both stock and pre-modified solutions. One of the key
points of the KT424-BK is the price/value ratio. Running under 130$ CDN for an aluminum case will appeal to many.

A rectangular intake vent dominates the center portion of the front bezel. The intake strikes a good balance between
design and function paired with two 80mm intake fans directly behind. A small metal mesh material constructs the bulk
of the vents design. The lower right hand potion of the front bezel features a small clear flip-down door, which
conceals two USB 2.0 ports along with a single Firewire IEEE 1394 port. If the small door been black in color, a
more uniform look would be at hand further blending into the front bezel design.
