Out of the box, the Thermalright SLK947U HSF looks very impressive rivaling the heavy heatsink construction of
similar brand name coolers currently on the market. The SLK947U HSF measures approximately 67mm (L)
x 81mm (W) x 45mm (H) and weighs in at 570 grams. The weight limit for this product is within the CPU
socket specifications imposed by AMD and Intel. As a safety precaution, Thermalright has included a
special black mounting bracket to counter balance the weight of this product. The black mounting bracket includes a
soft foam pad which is located in the center. Around the base of the black mounting bracket are a series
of pre-drilled holes which allow the unit to be mounted on the rear of a motherboard.

The SLK947U HSF uses a series of thin bonded copper fins which make up the composition of the unit. The
copper fins extend left to right with a set of grooves which allow the positioning of the appropriate
sized fan for cooling. The bottom of the SLK947U HSF is machined smooth and has a nice reflective
copper surface which should assist with moving heat away from the CPU. Upon closer inspection, I didn't
notice any machine or nick marks along the outer edge and center of the copper base.

Depending on the platform used, there are currently three different methods involved in the installation
procedure for the Thermalright SLK947U HSF. Surprisingly, the package does not include any instructions
but all documentation can be found on the Thermalright website.
Before installing this product, it is very important to first check Thermalright's motherboard compatibility list
to see if there are any existing issues listed with your current motherboard. For the Intel platform, consumers
have the option of using stock P4 heatsink retention bracket or using Thermalright's preferred method
of the screws, bolts and black mounting bracket. If you are using the stock P4 retention bracket, the
package does include a set of two P4 RM hold down clips. For the AMD platform, your motherboard must
support the four mounting holes around the CPU socket. This product does not support the 3-lug style
mounting configuration found on other heatsinks.
