Introduction:
Setting up a Home Theatre PC is almost commonplace, giving the nature of reduced pricing on graphics cards,
DVD drives and CD burners. One of the goals for most enthusiasts is to blend traditional computer equipment with
home theater components. The standard remote control is a simple device that is critical to the seamless operation
of both platforms. Ahanix Corporation based out Industry, California has been a manufacturer and distributor of
stylish computer enclosures for the past few years. The company has recently shifted its focus on the growing HTPC market with the introduction
of a new IR based remote control device. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the iMON Universal IR Remote Control
Device, a product designed specifically for the growing Home Theatre PC market.
Specifications:
The iMON Universal IR Remote Control Device will turn any PC or Laptop into a real AV System like TV, VTR, audio CD
and DVD Player with wireless controlling of all the applications on your PC. The iMON Station receives the IR
(Infrared) signal from the remote controller, analyzes the signal and then transfers it to PC. Here are some of the

The iMON Universal IR Remote Control Device comes in a green corrugated box with the Ahanix logo, website address as well as
features and specifications printed on the various sides. Inside the IrDA unit and the remote have been separated from each
other to minimize shifting of the two parts by way of a cardboard sheet, folded in a "W" shape.

The upper portion of the remote features an App. Exit button, which will, as it suggests exit the current
active program. Next is the Power Off button, which if pressed for more than two seconds to prevent accidents
shut down the PC. There is a Screen Saver button that will start your screen saver if you have set one
up as well as a Timer button that can act like an alarm clock. The buttons labeled 1 through 0 control
channel selection and double as short cut buttons. The last two buttons on the remote include Desktop
and Max/Restore. The Desktop button minimizes all applications while the Max/Restore button will either
maximize or restore an application to its original size. The Windows button can also be toggled to open
the Start Menu.
