MODTHEBOX would like to thank Ben from MountainMods
for sending the Black Power Coat Finish U2-UFO Aluminum Cube Computer Case for review.
Introduction:
Custom case fabrication continues to be a rare oddity in the consumer market. Consumers are presented
with a wide selection of chassis offerings with a majority of new case products being released from the
ever expanding pre-modification market. While pre-modified cases continue to gain in popularity, we have
witnessed a continuing theme where build quality and chassis construction are poor. Last year MTB had
the privilege of introducing our readers to MountainMods and named their U2UFO chassis one our top
picks for 2003. The company has been busy working on new product revisions to the original U2UFO design
and now offers a selection of powder coated finishes. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the
new Black Power Coat Finish U2-UFO Aluminum Cube Computer Case, a custom designed aluminum chassis for
hardcore PC enthusiasts.
Specifications:
The U2-UFO Aluminum Cube is just one of several custom designed computer cases available from MountainMods.
The company has developed what it calls U2-UFO Trilogy line, which essentially is the U2-UFO available
in three different configuration styles. Consumers have the option of selecting the U2-UFO Aluminum
Cube Computer Case with two different powder coat finishes (Black and Red) as well as configurations
which include a solid top, acrylic windows and different coloured Quad LED fans. Here are some
specifications taken directly from the MountainMods website:

The U2-UFO Aluminum Cube Computer Case arrived in good condition and was shipped in standard cardboard
packaging via FedEx Ground. The package was very light weight and contained no district markings other
than the included packaging slip and company address. Upon opening up the packaging, the case is secured
using a series of polystyrene pieces which have been placed around each corner of the cube. The case itself
was enclosed in a black garbage bag.

Out of the box, my initial impressions of the Black Power Coat Finish U2-UFO Aluminum Cube Computer
Case were extremely positive. On the design front not much has changed between the original
U2-UFO Aluminum Cube Computer Case that I reviewed back
in August 2003 and the new Black Power Coat Finish U2-UFO Aluminum Cube Computer Case. While the
original had three large windows that encompassed the top and sides; the new design includes a smaller
top window and two top mounted 120mm fan mounts. The premise for the new design is a fantastic black
power coat finish that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and is accented with subtle chrome
highlights and lexan windows. The Black Power Coat Finish U2-UFO Aluminum Cube Computer Case measures
approximately 18" (H) x 18" (W) x 18" (D) and supports all Micro ATX, Full ATX and Extended ATX
motherboards. The case is very light weight at 15 lbs and is custom manufactured from 2mm thick
aluminum alloy. The front portion of the case is very stylish with a great futuristic type look that is
replicated from the top portion of the bezel to the bottom. Also included in the package was an
assortment of items which included mounting screws and bolts, motherboard stand-offs and four swivel
caster wheels.
