MODTHEBOX would like to thank Heather from Kingston Technology for providing the Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency Memory Kit for review.

Kingston
Introduction:

The art of Overclocking allows for users to gain additional performance from their components at a fraction of the cost when compared to similar retail frequencies readily available. The much wanted speed boost of Overclocking can come in the form of a few simple settings or extensive trial and error determining the ideal settings through the assistance of benchmarking software utilities. A plethora of online resources and communities exist pertaining to ideal settings and successful hardware that allows for aggressive settings at high frequencies. Most times, the availability of the proper hardware is rather scarce and produced in limited quantities or luck of the draw. With a reputation for value ram, Kingston Technology based out of Fountain Valley, California is the world's largest independent manufacturer of memory products for desktop computers, notebooks, servers, workstations, laser printers, digital cameras and hand-held computers. Following upon the previously released Hyper-X series of memory, Kingston technology has since produced a revision deigned upon ultra low latency operation eliminating the quest for limited, hand picked modules. Today in MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency Memory Kit.

Specifications:

The Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency Memory Kit is one of several memory module packages available that Kingston Technology offers. Frequencies for the Hyper-X line range from PC2700 to PC4300 and are available in 512MB, 1GB and selective 2GB kits. The Ultra Low Latency speeds are currently restricted to the PC3200 frequency only. The Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency Memory Kit has been designed specifically for dual channel architecture operation on the AMD Athlon platform with a rated speed of DDR 200Mhz and a total capacity of (2x512MB) 1GB. Here are some specifications taken directly from the Kingston Technology website:

Out of the packaging, my initial impressions of the Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency modules were positive. Aside from the timings, the Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency modules continue same design as the previous Hyper-X line using an anodized blue heat spreader. The Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency Memory Kit contains a combined capacity of 1GB of memory in the form of two 512MB modules. Designed with an operating frequency of 200MHz DDR, the Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency modules are best paired with an AMD Athlon XP/A64 platform in order to take advantage of the enhanced latency. Compared to standard PC3200 modules rated at 2-3-3-3-6, the Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency modules come with timings of 2-2-2-5 with an operating voltage of 2.7V. The five digit number represents the CAS Latency, RAS-to-CAS Delay, RAS Precharge Act-to-Precharge Delay and Command Rate values respectively. The revised timings represent the currently fastest settings available. I did note the operating voltage to be slightly higher than the average module with a rating of 2.7V, the reasoning behind this is mostly likely related to keeping the modules stable with such low timings.
