The Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency Memory Kit consists of a pair of standard 184-pin DIMM TSOP packaged modules designed for use in DDR compliant motherboards based upon chipsets such as NVIDIA nForce 2 Ultra 400 and the Intel i865/i875P solutions. Following common design found on performance memory, the Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency modules incorporate a royal blue aluminum heatspreader. As discussed before, the overall efficiency of heat spreaders is debatable yet do bring a welcome level of aesthetics and protection to the modules. Each heatspreader is securely attached using 3M thermal tape and a small aluminum clip. The top portion of the Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency modules features the Hyper-X logo along with a small label listing the module name and frequency. The opposite site features a large Kingston Technology logo along with the website URL boldly printed. Prior to shipping, each module is 100% tested at published speeds on high-end Advantest Memory Testers. The Kingston Hyper-X KHX4000K2/1G DDR Memory Kit comes complete with a Kingston a lifetime warranty and free tech support.

Users unfamiliar with the proper installation procedures will find the included documentation very helpful for installing the Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency Memory Kit. It is recommended for maximum performance that the modules be installed according to your motherboards dual channel configuration using the necessary DIMM slots. The comparison modules I will be using include the latest Corsair XMS TWINX 1024 3200XL PRO modules with timings of 2-2-2-2-5 and my existing Corsair XMS PC3500 Platinum modules running at an altered speed of 2.5-3-3-3-6.

Testing:

The Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency Memory Kit, Corsair TWINX 1024 3200XL PRO and Corsair XMS PC3500C2PT v1.1 were tested at three different speeds with a synchronous (1:1) ratio to the processor in dual channel configuration. Testing frequencies reflect the maximum rated frequency modules the majority of enthusiasts would use when overclocking on the nForce II Ultra 400 platform. Test frequencies include PC3200, PC3500 and PC3700 which equal 200MHz, 217MHz and 233MHz DDR respectively. A sustained processor speed of approximately 2GHz was used throughout the testing. Windows XP Professional complete with the Service Pack 1 and all critical updates was used along with the latest NVIDIA nForce 2 drivers version 3.13 and Direct X version 9.0b. In order to test the test the Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency Memory Kit I assembled the following spare components:

  • DFI LanParty NF II Ultra B Motherboard
  • AMD Athlon XP Thoroughbred B 1700+ CPU
  • 2 x 256MB Corsair XMS PC3500C2PT v1.1 DDR memory
  • 2 x 512MB Kingston Hyper-X PC 3200ULK2 DDR memory
  • 2 x 512MB Corsair TWINX 1024 3200XL PRO
  • Western Digital WD800JB SE 80GB Hard Drive
  • FSP Group 460W Silent Power Supply
  • MSI GF4 MX440 Video Card
Given the already low latency, I maintained the stock 2.7V and slowly scaled the FSB in 5MHz increments testing at each stage for stability. Any setting above 224 MHz FSB required a minor voltage bump to 2.8V which allowed me to hit a stable speed of 233MHz with Dual Channel enabled, CPC off, using the DFI LanParty Ultra B motherboard while maintaining impressive timings of 2-2-2-5. The according settings for the Kingston Hyper-X KHX3200ULK2/1G Ultra Low Latency Memory Kit, Corsair TWINX 1024 3200XL PRO and Corsair XMS PC3500C2PT v1.1 are outlined below:
