Introduction:

PC design has standardized over the last several years catering to consumers looking to balance system performance with silent operation. With the current migration of 32-bit to 64-bit architecture, there are several manufacturers currently in the process of re-designing their existing product lines to meet new consumer demand. Zalman has been well known for their patented CNPS (Computer Noise Prevention System) and in the past has developed a series of silent computing and performance based products utilizing the famous flower heatsink design. The company has recently shifted focus to cater to a new market segment with the introduction its first all inclusive water cooling system. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the Reserator 1, a self contained passive water cooling system designed for the AMD and Intel platform.

Specifications:

The Reserator 1 consists of various components that can be assembled together to form a complete water cooling system. The kit requires some mild assembly and includes all the necessary components for installation. Here are some of the specifications taken directly from the Zalman website:

The Zalman Reserator 1 Fanless Water Cooling System was shipped in a standard blue and white double-walled corrugated box with the case manufacturer's logos and images printed on all sides.

The packaging inside the box was good with the Reserator 1 sealed with two pieces of polystyrene located on the top and bottom. The Zalman Reserator 1 Fanless Water Cooling System includes an assortment of items which include the following:
  • Reserator 1 Assembly (Reservoir + Radiator + Water Pump)
  • 1 x Flow Indicator
  • 1 x ZM-WB2 Gold Water Block
  • 1 x Zalman ZM-GWB1 VGA Water Block
  • 1 x Hand screw
  • 1 x Water Block mounting clip
  • 6 x Chrome Fittings
  • 1 x Package of Zalman Thermal Grease
  • 2 x Clip supports for Socket 478
  • 1 x A-Type (Blue) Clip support for AMD Socket 462
  • 1 x B-Type (White) Clip Support for AMD Socket 462

Also included in the package is a 21 page user's manual which is written in both English and Korean. The user's manual is excellent and covers all aspects of the Reserator 1 Fanless Water Cooling System ranging from features, specifications, components, compatible CPU types and precautions to be noted during installation. The same information that is included in the manual can also be found at the Zalman website as an online reference.
