Introduction:
Portable storage devices have transcended through many technological changes over the past few years.
The popularity of the technology has created new market segments that have crossed over into different
mediums in order to provide mass appeal. Apple Computers is recognized as one of the first global
companies to mass market a portable storage media solution with its popular IPOD brand name. The success
of the IPOD has created competition where rival manufacturers are releasing new solid state storage
devices that cater to both consumers and music buffs. Samsung Canada has recently released a new series
of portable MP3 based players marketed under the Yepp brand name. Today in MTB Labs, we will be evaluating
the Samsung Yepp YP-780V MP3 player; a small form factor portable media device designed around Flash
Media technology.
Specifications:
The Samsung Yepp YP-780V has a capacity of 256MB of internal Flash memory designed for the storage and playback of MP3,
WMA and WAV files. The Yepp YP-780V is the second highest of the four recent MP3 players being offered from the Samsung
Yepp lineup and is capable of MP3 playback, FM tuner and voice recording. Here are some specifications as taken directly

to reveal the Samsung Yepp YP-780V unit itself showcased in the center. On the rear of the package is a contents
list, product specifications, system requirements along with product features.

Several accessories are included with the Samsung Yepp YP-780V that are neatly packaged into their own bags.
The Samsung Yepp YP-780V comes complete with an installation CD, user manual, earphones, USB cable, line cable,
two AAA batteries, neck strap and a belt clip. All the included items ensure a trouble free install and ensure
the Samsung Yepp YP-780V is ready to use out of the package.

The Samsung Yepp YP-780V represents the latest in solid-state based MP3 players and is marketed as an
all-in-one portable media solution. The unit is one of four new models introduced by Samsung Canada and
comes complete with flash memory configurations ranging from 128MB to 1GB. Out of the packaging, my first
impressions of the Samsung Yepp YP-780V were very positive. The unit measures approximately 45mm (W) x 73mm
(H) x 17.5mm (D) and is very light weight at 45g. The exterior of the YP-780V consists of a plastic and aluminum
silver design coupled with the reflective front portion. The Samsung Yepp YP-780V has a capacity of 256MB
of internal flash memory and is capable of playing MP3, WMA and WAV formats. Additional features include a
built-in FM Tuner, microphone for recording voice directly to the internal flash memory, blue backlit LCD,
ID3 Tag support, SRS 3-D technology, TruBass technology, SRS WOW surround and 20 hours of playback time on
two AAA batteries.
