Introduction:

With the expansion of the standard consumer computer hardware products being designed to encompass enthusiast elements, the choice for an appropriate power supply can become rather cumbersome. One of the clear advantages to the majority of enthusiast-based products compared to basic offerings is the sheer level of versatility at the user’s disposal. Currently on the market there are several recognized manufacturers that have established credible reputations for designing high quality power supply units with excellent performance and warranty options. Ultra Products is a global, technology-solutions provider headquartered in Fletcher, Ohio which offers a wide range of solutions, products, and services to resellers and end users worldwide. The company has gained recognition with the introduction of what is being dubbed as the "worlds first modular power supply". Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the new Ultra X-Connect 500W ATX Power Supply from Ultra Products.

Specifications:

The X-Connect 500W ATX Power Supply is one of several models being offered from the X-Connect product line ranging in power and aesthetic options. The X-Connect 500W ATX Power Supply is designed to deliver the user a complete modular solution in order promote precise cable management and additional airflow to any standard computer. Additional features include UV reactive shielded cables, Dual UV 80mm fans, high gloss finish, low acoustic noise, Short Circuit Protection and more. The Ultra X-Connect 500W ATX Power Supply arrived in a large colorful cardboard packaging. The Ultra Products logo along with the X-Connect name is branded throughout the box provide a vibrant design. Detailed imagery and specifications are printed on all sides of the packaging. Bundled inside is an additional smaller box that holds the necessary cables. Both packages follow a common theme and are very informative. The Ultra X-Connect 500W ATX Power Supply was tightly packaged and held stationary via two polystyrene blocks.

A small variety of standard accessories are included with the Ultra X-Connect 500W ATX Power Supply in the form of a printed User Manual, mounting screws, socket covers and an AC input power cord. A total of nine shielded cables are included for use with the Ultra X-Connect 500W ATX Power Supply which include the following:
  • 1 x ATX Main Power Cable (20-Pin)
  • 1 x 17.75" Peripheral Power Cable
  • 1 x 21.75" Peripheral Power Cable
  • 2 x Y-Type Peripheral Power Cable
  • 1 x Double Y-Type Peripheral Power Cable with FDD 4 pin connector
  • 1 x +12V Power Cable
  • 1 x AUX 6 pin Power Cable
  • 1 x 6" SATA Cable

All cables included with the Ultra X-Connect 500W ATX Power Supply follow the X-Cable technology which constitutes, molded cable cores and connectors, Premium Tinned-Copper braiding sleeve, UV Translucent effects and superior strength and flexibility. Enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the cables are available in a variety of colors ranging from red, green and blue. We can see from the above images that the overall connection size is much larger when compared to standard Molex connections. The top portion of each cable has been branded with a small silver Ultra logo for an added touch of appeal.
