The main control area is located on the top of the unit and is comprised of three buttons. A central rotational wheel acts as the volume control and general selection function. A smaller play and pause button along with a power and stop button are located directly below and above respectively. The overall menu system is rather compact and will be tedious for those with large hands. The Ultra 256MB 8-in-1 MP3 Player doubles as a portable USB drive in which the onboard 256MB of memory is shared. Removal of a protective cap at the front portion reveals the USB interface compatible with both the PC and MAC platforms. Designed to act as a USB drive, the Ultra 256MB 8-in-1 MP3 Player supports plug and play functions in any available USB port in order to gain read or write files.

A standard headphone jack is located towards the rear portion of the Ultra 256MB 8-in-1 MP3 Player. Unlike rival MP3 players which feature a built in rechargeable battery, the Ultra 256MB 8-in-1 MP3 Player requires a single AAA battery which can be conveniently inserted in the lower right corner. The included battery is manufactured by TMK and can be easily recharged whenever the Ultra 256MB 8-in-1 MP3 Player is attached to a USB port. This eliminates the use of purchasing multiple batteries. I was unable to obtain any information regarding average battery life span.

A variety of upgrade options exist with the Ultra 256MB 8-in-1 MP3 Player when using the SD/MMC card slot. Users have the option of internal storage expansion up to 512MB or an ideal SD/MMC card reader from sources such as digital cameras and more. A small speaker is located directly on the bottom of the Ultra 256MB 8-in-1 MP3 Player and easily allows for the recording of verbal notes, sounds and music.
