Introduction:
Optimization by definition is a process used to make a system or design as effective or functional as
possible. The same theory can be applied to personal computer systems where optimization can be a two
stage process. The first stage involves the assembly of high performance system components while the
second stage involves application tweaking and tuning. Once a system has reached its maximum performance
level, consumers must regularly monitor for stability and unexpected issues. One of the easiest methods of
monitoring performance levels is with an Intelligent LCD display. The advantage of an Intelligent LCD
display is the ability to interactivity receive updated statistical information on a computer's
operational state and performance level. VL System based out of Seoul, Korea has been a manufacturer of
these units for a number of years and today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the new L.I.S POP
LCD Indicator.
Specifications:
The L.I.S POP LCD Indicator display module is the newest intelligent display product from VLSystem and is
currently only available in two formats LCD and VFD. Some of the key features are support for dual
CPU’s or Hyper-threading, display of Motherboard Monitor statistics, e-mail notification, Winamp/Windows
Media 10 support, programmable event alarms, and a software package including a CG (logo image) builder.

The VLSystem L.I.S POP LCD Indicator arrived packaged in a colourful red and white retail box which boldly
displayed the name of the product and an image of all the available versions on the top. On the left
and right hand sides of the packaging was information on the product specifications and LCD display
options. VLSystem did a good job in packaging the components inside the kit guaranteeing their safe
arrival during shipping.

The entire package was enclosed in a custom polystyrene block and included the following items:
- 1 x VLSystem L.I.S POP LCD Indicator
- 1 x Bypass serial cable w/5V power connector
- 4 x 6-32 mounting screws
- 1 x Software installation CD
- 1 x 32 page user manual
The manual included in the package was very comprehensive covering detailed information on the L.I.S
POP LCD Indicator's specifications, controller setup, system requirements and software application options.
VLSystem does include a more expanded version of their documentation with reference photos which can
be located right here.
