To installation of the VLSystem L.I.S POP LCD Indicator is a very easy three step process that can be completed in less than 10 minutes. The first step is to connect the 4-pin power cable to the 4-pin header on the back of the L.I.S POP. The second step is to plug in the DB-9 cable into the 2-pin header on the back of the LCD and connect the opposite end to any free COM port on the back of any computer. The cable is about 3-4ft in length and should work in any mid-tower or server tower case. It would have been nice if an additional bypass PCI slot plate was included to keep cable management to a minimum. Finally, the unit itself can be mounted using the four 6-32 screws into any free 5.25" drive bay. Once the unit is mounted and powered, the next step is to move onto the software installation.

The VLSystem L.I.S POP LCD Indicator includes an installation CD with custom application software for the unit. Most consumers will want to discard the CD since it shipped with the earliest version of the L.I.S POP LCD Indicator software. As of the writing of this review, the application software for this product was up to version 1.0.2.0 which can be downloaded directly from the VLSystem website.

The software application that controls the VLSystem L.I.S POP LCD Indicator has come along away since it was originally created by developers at the Overclockers Korea website. The software interface has been entirely re-written and categorized into a easy to navigate sub-menu. The first screen of the L.I.S Control Center is the Basic Setup menu which allows you to adjust the configuration settings of the LCD. The L.I.S POP LCD Indicator supports a maximum speed of 19200 bps with 8 bits and 1 stop bit using a standard RS232 serial interface. After all the appropriate selections have been made, you have a few test options for sending sample two line text messages to the LCD to confirm your settings. For example, consumers can customize their own start and end welcome messages when the L.I.S Control Center is first started or closed.
