MODTHEBOX would like to thank Gabe from Swiftech
for sending the H20-120 Rev.2 Water Cooling Kit for review.
Introduction:
The cooling market encompasses every product imaginable to cool all the components inside a computer
system. By far, cooling products designed specifically for CPU processors have been the most popular.
It is a well known fact that both Intel and AMD release new CPU revisions at least every two years,
which means new cooling products, must be either created or revised to meet current consumer demand.
The real test for any manufacturer is to quickly adapt to new platforms and provide an assortment
of new products to the consumer market each and every year. Swiftech, based in Signal Hill CA, is a
water cooling pioneer, having introduced the first commercially available thermo-electric cooling
solution in 1999. Five years later, Swiftech is still well-known as a reputable source of performance
cooling products. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the H20-120 Rev.2 Water Cooling Kit, an
all-in-one cooling solution designed for the Intel platform.
Specifications:
The Swiftech H20-120 Rev.2 Water Cooling Kit consists of various components that can be assembled
together to form a complete water cooling system. The kit requires some mild assembly and includes all
the necessary components for installation. Here are some of the specifications taken directly from the
Swiftech website:

MCW6000-P Water Block - Key Features:
|
MCW6000-P Water Block: Manufactured by Swiftech
The inlet is centrally located to focus the lowest temperature fluid over the hottest area
The block is an all C110 copper construction, to exploit the high thermal conductivity characteristics of this metal
Monolithic" construction: the base and housing are brazed together, assuring long term integrity of the joint
100% quality control at the assembly line level: each block is factory tested to 25 psi (1.7 bars) to guarantee zero defect
"Monolithic" construction: the base and housing are brazed together, assuring long term integrity of the joint
The copper housing features an unlimited durability compared to acrylic tops used in competing technologies
The 2.5" x 2.5" form factor enables the same block to be used with all current microprocessors in the Desktop and Server markets
The inlet and outlet are intentionally smooth, to provide compatibility with quick-connect, and hose clamp fittings
The waterblock base features a thin pin design (281 pins). This geometry maximizes the surface area exposed to the fluid, and promotes turbulent flow, both factors which also contribute to enhance the convection heat transfer, while exhibiting less overall flow restriction than competing designs
The MCW6000™ attachment mechanism is plug-end-play and does not necessitate removal of the motherboard (except Intel® Pentium® 4 LGA 775 processors)
Each retention system has been engineered to comply with Intel® & AMD® specifications, and optimize both safety and ease of use during installation
|
MCP650 12 VDC Pump - Key Features:
|
Superior 12 Volts DC convenience: plugs into the computer power supply
50,000 hours MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) equivalent to 5 years lifetime
The MCP650 can be used with full confidence in any MP servers, and high-end workstations
Compact Design
Quiet Operation thanks to brushless motor
½" barb fittings
Quick installation with adhesive neoprene pad, or permanent installation with thru-bolts
No maintenance when used with de-mineralized water, and anti-fungal additives (Our HydrX™ additive is recommended)
|
MCR120-FB Radiator/Fan Assembly - Key Features:
|
2-pass Radiator specifically developed for PC water cooling
1/2" (tube OD) quick-connect adapters included
High-durability custom formulation acrylic paint finish
Rated for 378KCal per hour (1501 BTU per hour) or 440W
120 mm (4.72 inch) core consisting of flat brass tubes for maximum heat conductivity
High-density louvered copper fin configuration for enhanced heat dissipation
Built-in plenum chamber for increased performance and noise reduction
Self-tapping 120mm fan and case mounting holes for ease of installation
Compact 157 x 133 x 25 mm (5.9 x 5 x 0.98 inch) dimensions allows it to fit inside most mid-tower cases
|
MCRES-525 5.25" Drive Bay Reservoir - Key Features:
|
Durable high-density polyethylene for long term durability
Stepped down discharge compartment eliminates air entrainment into the pump
Unrestricted inlet and discharge ports
Pre-installed (silicone sealed) fittings

The Swiftech H20-120 Rev.2 Water Cooling Kit was shipped in a standard corrugated cardboard box with a
standard packaging label located on the top. Inside the box revealed an assortment of smaller packaged
components each sealed in plastic protective wrap. A one page reference sheet provides a list of
included components. The Swiftech H20-120 Rev.2 Water Cooling Kit is being marketed as a high-end
product designed specifically for consumers who overclock their PC's and want good cooling performance
results.

Out of the box, the packaged items include the following:
- 1 x MCW6000-P CPU Water Block for Intel Pentium 4 processor
- 1 x MCP650 12 VDC Pump w/ 1 1/2 pre-installed inlet tubing (1/2" ID)
- 1 x MCR120-FB Radiator/Fan Assembly
- 1 x MCRES-525 5.25" Drive Bay Reservoir
- 1 x Coolsleeves Clear Coils (40")
- 1 x 4ft 1/2" OD High Quality Tubing
- 1 x Bottle 2oz Hydrix specialty formulated coolant
The Swiftech H20-120 Rev.2 Water Cooling Kit contains an assortment of high-end components that are
both brand name and of high quality. While the components in this package are pre-selected,
consumers also have the option of individually selecting a custom setup which best suits their own
personal needs. During my inspection of the parts, I did note that a Chipset and GPU cooling solution
were missing from the package, but these components can be purchased as an separate add-on from
the Swiftech website. One big indication that Swiftech is committed to producing the absolute best
product on the consumer market was the inclusion of a very detailed 40 page user manual. I cannot
stress how important it is for a manufacturer to provide as much information on their product to
simplify the process of installation. The 40 page manual covers every aspect of the H20-120 Rev.2 Kit
including maintenance, system draining, troubleshooting and individual component specifications.
