Out of the box, my first impressions of the Samsung DVD-L300 Portable DVD Player were extremely positive. The overall design of the DVD-L300 is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and consists of a two piece silver coloured plastic housing. At first glace the Samsung DVD-L300 Portable DVD Player can be immediately be compared to a small sized laptop computer. The DVD-L300 measures approximately 1.1" (H) x 10.5" (W) x7.1" (D) and is very light weight at 5.5 lbs. Like a traditional laptop computer, the DVD-L300 has a fold away 10" TFT-LCD screen and a series integrated controls. During my evaluation of the bundled components, I did notice that Samsung neglected to include any sort of traveling case to protect the DVD-L300 during transport.

On the left hand side of the Samsung DVD-L300 Portable DVD Player are two interfaces which allow you to adapt this product to your specific configuration. Consumers have the option of using the Audio In/Out ports via RCA-style style cables or Digital Out via a stereo receiver. There is also support for two different video modes which include Composite RCA or S-Video. In order to power the unit consumers have the option of using the AC power adapter which plugs conveiniently into any free wall socket or use the included battery pack. The playback time using the battery pack averages between 2.5-4 hours which is pretty weak compared to rival units from Sony which offer at least a minimum of 7 hours. Once the battery pack is completely depleted the average re-charge time is 2.5 hours. On the right hand side of the Samsung DVD-L300 Portable DVD Player is an adjustable volume control knob, and two headphone mini-jacks labeled A and B.

In the center of the Samsung DVD-L300 Portable DVD Player is the disc cover that automatically opens with a press of the eject button. Like most traditional DVD players there is a center spindle as well as a built-in optical laser that will read the contents of any DVD disc.
