Corsair COOL Water Cooling Kit

Introduction:

The water cooling market has changed dramatically with the release of high performance kit solutions from a wide variety of manufacturers. Corsair has been a leader in the design and manufacture of high-speed modules since 1994. The company's main focus has always been on supporting the special demands of mission-critical servers and high-end workstations, as well as the performance demands of extreme gamers. Corsair extends its product offerings to extreme PC users with the inclusion of the Corsair COOL line of water cooling systems. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the Corsair COOL Water Cooling Kit, an all-inclusive water cooling system designed for the PC platform.

Specifications:

The Corsair COOL 120MM kit includes everything you need for a complete water cooling system. The system has been designed to be cross compatible with all socket types, this is a “one box fits all” type water cooling solution. Here are some specifications taken from the Corsair website:

As stated, this is a complete water cooling kit and all components are all of high quality and reliability. The modular design of this system allows for modification and customization of the system. While this spells good things for the hard core enthusiast who is constantly tweaking and changing their rig, the Corsair COOL Water Cooling Kit still delivers an excellent package right out of the box. Documentation is supplied in the form of a 7 page quick installation guide, and a more comprehensive installation manual via PDF on the CD-ROM. The quick install guide walks you through the install process step by step; however thorough reference of the PDF is urged. It contains details of the socket mounting clips, as well as filling and maintenance instructions. Also on the CD-ROM is a switchboard to Corsair’s Forums, an Adobe Acrobat viewer download link, and a link to Corsair’s web site.

The reservoir is designed to fit snug into a 5 ¼” expansion drive bay. It’s made of high density polyethylene and has a very rugged feel. Dual inlet ports are a nice feature, and help to illustrate the potential of this system. The “stepped down” portion of the reservoir holds the outlet valve. This design eliminates the chance of air getting sucked into the pump, lowering the cooling capacity of the system. Installed, the Corsair COOL 120mm will hold ~800mL of water (whole system with the full compliment of vinyl hose). Corsair supplies enough coolant for two applications. Green in color, it contains corrosion inhibitors and additives to help with cooling efficiency.
