AcoustiFan Noiseless & DustPROOF 80mm Fans

Introduction:

A majority of computer enthusiasts employ air cooling to keep case temperatures down. Fans are hands down the most cost effective method of removing unwanted heat, providing system stability and longevity to the average user. In the past year there has been a new market segment created to cater to silent application cooling. Silent application cooling involves components specifically designed for low noise levels and performance. QuietPC based out of Chicago Park, California is a company that specializes in finding, testing and providing the best quiet computer hardware from around the world. The company has recently introduced a series of new cooling fans marketed under the AcoustiFan brand name. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the 80mm versions of the AcoustiFan Noiseless & DustPROOF Fans.

Specifications:

QuietPC offers the AcoustiFan case fans in 60mm, 70mm, 80mm, 92mm and 120mm sizes. Features common to all five fans are a rated voltage of 12 volts, double ball bearings, and smart RPM monitoring capability. Here are some of the specifications taken directly from the QuietPC website:

NOTES:
* Where noise levels have been measured & calculated @1m distance below 10dBA we have quoted <10dBA. Very low noise levels,
are taken at 0.3m distance and extrapolated to 1m, so that recorded levels are significantly above test chamber background noise levels.
** The quoted RPM for an individual fan may vary slightly by as much as 10% (figures shown are averages from multiple tests).
A variation in RPM at a given voltage will result in a change in airflow and noise levels.
*** Auto-restart is a safety feature build into the fan's PCB that automatically restarts the fan after the release
of a constraint that has prevented the blades from spinning.

The AcoustiFan Noiseless & DustPROOF 80mm Fans arrived in standard retail packaging with AcoustiFan logo and product specifications located on the front. The premise behind these fans is silent performance for use with a wide variety of applications which include CPU, GPU and case cooling. By employing a double ball bearing system, QuitePC also provides a lifetime warranty that covers 60,000 hours or 6.85yrs at 25°C.

Out of the packaging, there is nothing aesthetically pleasing about the AcoustiFan Noiseless & DustPROOF 80mm Fans. The appearance of the AcoustiFan rivals every other stock 80mm cooling fan currently on the market. The main difference that separates that AcoustiFan from your average 80mm stock cooling fan is the area centering on the main fan motor. On most stock fans when you flip a fan on its rear side chances are you will be able to see a portion of the fan motor exposed. The AcoustiFan seals the fan motor area for dust-free operation and reduced noise. The blades have also been treated with a special coating that will assist with preventing dust accumulation. Attached to the base of the fan is a 3-pin fan header that includes wire leads for 12V (red), ground (black) and RPM sensing (white).
