Introduction:
Gaming fanatics often deploy the latest technologies to match the fast pace of today's hottest software
titles. If you check your local retailer or online vendor you will notice that there is a large segment
of gaming specific hardware components that range from high-end CPU's, video cards, hard drives, cases,
keyboards, mice and sound cards. While CRT monitors still make up a large percentage of most gaming
configurations, new affordable LCD-TFT monitors have been recently released to appeal to the gaming
community. Samsung Electronics has been at the forefront of the consumer market developing a wide range
of CRT and LCD-TFT products based on its popular SyncMaster brand name. The company has recently
released a series of gaming monitors using its new RTA Technology. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be
evaluating the Samsung SyncMaster 930BF, a mid-range gaming LCD that offers a low response time of 4ms.
Specifications:
The 920T TFT-LCD Monitor is one of many available LCD based monitors available from Samsung Canada. This
product is part of the popular SyncMaster series and incorporates a thin bezel, circular base and

The Samsung SyncMaster 930BF TFT-LCD Monitor ships in a double wall cardboard box with a plastic carry-on
handle positioned on the top. A product shot is showcased on the top and side panels, along with a
complete list of specifications and features. Inside the package the SyncMaster 930BF was packed
between two formed pieces of polystyrene and enclosed in a sealed protective plastic bag.

The Samsung SyncMaster 930BF TFT-LCD Monitor is bundled with one standard 15-pin D-sub VGA cable, DVI-D cable,
and a power cable. After examining the specifications for this monitor, I noticed that the package did
not include a VESA 75mm Wall Mounting Kit. The Samsung lists this kit as a separate add-on which must
be purchased for those consumers who wish to wall mount this unit.
The SyncMaster 930BF TFT-LCD Monitor also includes a smaller plastic bag which contains an assortment of
items. The included CD contains the TFT-LCD monitor user guide, installation drivers and an assortment
of application software. The application software includes Natural Color and Magic Tune v2.0. The
Natural Color application software allows you to manual adjust display optimization, colour adjustment
and colour preference settings all from your desktop. MagicTune v2.0 is essentially the software
equivalent of the On Screen Display Menu which allows you to customize monitor settings from your
desktop. An eight page quick set-up guide covers the driver installation for different O/S platforms
ranging from all flavours of Windows to Linux. A secondary manual covers the hardware installation and
recommended safety procedures.
