Out of the packaging and the VapoChill Micro Ultra Low Noise Series Cooler does not look like your typical conventional heatsink. The overall composition of the unit consists of formed pieces of welded aluminum with a solid copper base. The VapoChill Micro measures approximately 139mm (H) x 98mm (W) x 50mm (D) and is light weight despite its size at 278g or 355g with the 90mm fan installed. In order to provide ample air circulation, Asetek has encased the aluminum fins with a plastic fan shroud. The plastic shroud has been pre-drilled with four mounting holes for the installation of the 90mm fan. The construction of the plastic shroud is quite flimsy and cheap in my opinion. It doesn't do a very good job in staying attached to the base of the heatsink.

A closer examination of the aluminum fins reveals three copper pipes that are located in the center of the unit. The copper pipes work in conjunction with what Asetek refers to as its "evaporation chamber" or "copper chamber" which contains hermetically sealed gas that uses the same cooling principles as phase change cooling. Most consumers familiar with Asetek products have seen this technology primarily used in the larger VapoChill refrigeration units. The main difference here is that the "evaporation chamber" or "copper chamber" sits on top of a CPU and when heat is generated the liquid contained in the chamber will evaporate and travel into the three copper pipes. The copper pipes are then cooled by the aluminum fins and the 90mm fan which releases the liquid now in gas form. The direct result is that this process will condense the evaporated liquid back into a liquid state. The cycle is repeated over and over again by transferring large quantities of heat with very low thermal gradients for effective cooling.

The bottom portion of the VapoChill Micro Ultra Low Noise Series Cooler includes a copper base that is very smooth with a mid-level reflective finish. Asetek has gone the extra step by pre-applying thermal paste to simplify the installation process although there is no information included on what type of paste it is. As an alternative consumers can opt to remove the paste and apply a brand of their own choosing such as Arctic Silver.
