Setting up DVD recording options in the Samsung DVD-R120 DVD Recorder is accomplished by using the built-in
scheduling option that allows consumers to input a source channel, date and time. The DVD-R120 by
default will accept DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD-R discs and will prompt you to format any uninitialized
discs prior to use. All recorded programs are organized in a easy to read title menu that provides the
date of recording and length of the program. There are a 5 different recording modes which range
from XP (High Quality Mode - 1 hour), SP (Standard Quality Mode - 2 hours), LP (Long Recording Mode -
4 hours), EP (Extended Mode - 6 hours) and FR (Flexible Mode 60 to 480 mins). The DVD-R120 does have
a limitation on what can be recorded from an Antenna or Cable TV source. As a safeguard the unit features
Content Protection for Recorded Media (CPRM) as well as Copy Control Signals. Any TV broadcast that
contains copy control signals (Copy-Free, Copy-Once, or Copy-Never) will stop all scheduled recordings
and display a message on the screen that the program cannot be recorded.

From the Title List menu, consumers have basic editing options that allow each recording to be
customized with a label. This is an excellent feature for organizing the recordings of your
favourite programs. Consumers navigate through this menu using the bundled remote control. Editing
features can also be extended to the organization of cut scenes for those consumers who will
really to make their recordings more personal. The Samsung DVD-R120 DVD Recorder also doubles as an
audio player supporting regular music CD's or MP3's. By pressing the Info button on the remote
places a track listing in the middle of the screen with information on the track number and
time remaining in the song.

Conclusion:
The Samsung DVD-R120 DVD Recorder is a feature rich product that caters to those individuals who
want an all-in-one multimedia and recording solution. Samsung Canada has done a good job in
incorporating an abundance of useful and easy to use features into one product. Consumers will
appreciate the sleek light weight design and easy to navigate On Screen Display menu options. The
product includes a remote control that is very handy for everyday use and has a nice non-complicated
button layout. Scheduling recordings is an absolute breeze and is the perfect option for those consumers
who want to archive their favourite television shows or movies. The editing features provide a good
subset of options for changing any title list menu or cut scenes. By far the best feature of this
product the multi-format support that includes Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD, MP3, JPEG, DVD-Video,
DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD-R. During my evaluation, I didn't experience too many
issues with the DVD-R120. I was a little disappointed that there is a limitation of what programs can
be recorded thanks to the inclusion of Content Protection for Recorded Media (CPRM) and support for
Copy Control Signals. It would be nice if unit supported dual tuners to allow you to watch and
record your programs at the same time. Finally, a nice feature add-on to the remote would be a backlight
feature to see the buttons during night time viewing. Overall, I was impressed by the Samsung DVD-R120
DVD Recorder and award a final rating of 8.5 out of 10.
