Out of the box, my first impressions of the Bytecc ME-850 Landisk Enclosure were extremely positive. The overall design of the Landisk is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and consists of a two piece black aluminum housing. The enclosure is vertically mounted on top of a plastic base which features anti-skid padding on the bottom. The ME-850 Landisk measures approximately 60mm (W) x 175mm (D) x 195mm (H) and weighs 950g excluding the installation of a IDE hard disk. The Bytecc ME-850 Landisk Enclosure is designed to be universally compatible with a wide variety of operating systems including Microsoft Windows 98SE/2000/NT4.0/XP, Mac OS X 10.3.X or higher and Linux.

The front portion of the Bytecc ME-850 Landisk Enclosure includes a smoked acrylic panel which features detailed white lettering for the various LED displays. There are 5 designated Blue LED's that provide visual status on ME-850 Landisk once in operation. The Data/Status LED indicates that the ME-850 Landisk is operating normally. The LAN LED indicates that the LAN port is currently operating at 100Base-TX. The CPU LED indicates that the CPU is working properly while the HDD LED blinking indicates that the hard drive is currently reading or writing data. Finally, the Power LED indicates that the power supply is properly connected to the Landisk. The rear portion of the Bytecc ME-850 Landisk Enclosure includes a Reset to Factory Default switch, 10/100 Base TX LAN Port, Power Switch and a receptor for the power adapter.

In order to use the Bytecc ME-850 Landisk Enclosure the first step is to remove Landisk module from the housing. This can be accomplished by removing two screws from the rear by using a regular Phillips screwdriver. Once the screws have been removed the module can be easily pulled out in order to install an IDE hard drive.
