MODTHEBOX would like to thank Ben from Mountain Mods for sending the Bob Slay Acrylic Cube Case for review.

Mountain Mods

Introduction:

The typical store bought LAN party case is a tower of the mid size variety that is pre-modded to the gills and features a handle or carry device of questionable reliability. This formula does little to set you apart from other gamers, nor does it address the needs of the LAN party crowd. Mountain Mods takes a stab at what they believe to be the ultimate LAN party case. The Bob Slay’s cube design is characteristic of Mountain Mods’ custom case lineup, but tweaked to emphasize portability, thermal dissipation, and ease of connectivity. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the new Bob Slay Acrylic Cube Case a custom designed acrylic chassis for hardcore gaming enthusiasts.

Specifications:

The Bob Slay is an American made laser cut 1/4" cast acrylic custom case. It features a stainless steel carry handle for portability, and has ample room for all your full size components. The case is separated into two compartments, the lower compartment can hold (3) HDDs, PSU and (2) 5.25" external drive bays, while the upper compartment showcases the motherboard and its attached components. Here are some specifications taken from the Mountain Mods website:

The Bob Slay arrived in a standard cardboard box. Nothing fancy as this is a custom built case, but the packaging appears good. Opening the box revealed an inner box cushioned by Styrofoam pieces. A plastic wrapped bag of screws and mounting hardware is securely taped to the inner box.

Another layer of packaging material ensures safe travel of the pre-assembled Bob Slay. The unit is wrapped in a garbage bag to protect from scratching/rubbing and arrived in mint condition. A quick inventory shows the following support material for the Bob Slay Acrylic Cube Case:
  • 2 x Acrylic 5.25 spacers
  • 1 x Bag of motherboard mounting screws (10 pcs.)
  • 1 x Bag of long 3mm screws (4 pcs. For 5.25 inch device)
  • 1 x Bag of long 6/32 screws (8 pcs. for PSU and HDD)
  • 1 x Bag of long 120mm fan screws (8 pcs.)
There is no instruction manual for the pre-assembled case; however system installation is very intuitive. A 9 page PDF instruction manual is available for download and is targeted for the user who elects to assemble the unit themselves. Consumers should note that the sample received from Mountain Mods did not have the 3 HDD installation bracket.
