The Mountain Mods logo is laser etched on the front of the case, along with the case name centered below the front 120mm fan hole. Mountain Mods was kind enough to laser etch the MTB logo on the lower left and right sides of the Bob Slay case which is part of their existing services if you wish to customize your own.

Now that we are familiar with the layout of the Bob Slay case, let’s document an installation of our test system into this new case. Parts for this segment of the review consist of the following:

  • Gigabyte GA-7N400 Motherboard
  • Athlon XP 2600+ Barton
  • Thermalright SK-6+ HSF w/ Antec Blue LED 80mm FAN
  • 512MB PC-3200 Kingston Value RAM
  • ATI Radeon 9700 Pro AGP Video Card w/ Zalman cooler
  • WD 40GB ATA HDD
  • Sunbeam Chromatic Windmill fan controller
  • Mitsumi CD-R/W
  • Enermax 350W PSU
  • 2 x Antec 120mm Blue LED Fans
  • 1 x 12" Red CCFL

A certain order of operations must be followed when installing components into the Bob Slay. The power supply mounts vertically using the standard four screw locations as illustrated in the first picture. The second shot shows that there is exactly 6 inches (15.2cm) of clearance in the lower portion of the case. Just high enough for a PSU at this rotation.

With the PSU secured, the HDD goes next. The drive is fastened from below and sits in close proximity to the power supply exhaust fan. This is thoughtful as you won’t have to worry about the accumulation of hot dead air around the hard drive. There is 3/4 of an inch (2cm) of clearance between the connector side of the hard drive and the side panel. This should provide just enough space for standard PATA, SATA and power connectors.

In the first shot you will also notice the acrylic feet at the bottom of the Bob Slay. These four 1/4" thick pieces are securely adhered to the four bottom corners of the case.
