In order to deal with air circulation issues, I-Star has pre-drilled the external shell of D-300 3U Rackmount Case with series of ventilations holes on the top, left and right hand sides. This is an excellent additional for addressing thermal requirements since the ventilation holes are strategically placed in locations where this chassis will generate the most heat.

The I-Star Storm Series D-300 Black 3U Rackmount Case includes two swing away front doors which open up two distinct compartments for the external drive bays. The swing away doors are held in place via hinges that are secured by springs in each corner. Centered in between both compartments is the location for an indicator panel which includes LEDs for Power ON/OFF, System & Alarm Reset, HDD and Fans. Below the indicator panel is an embedded security lock that uses the set of keys that are included in the package. The lock is a welcome addition for a server environment since it is the ideal solution for added security and acts as a deterrent for chassis intrusion. Underneath the security lock is the location for two external USB 2.0 ports. The ports are connected to a series of extender cables that much be attached to a motherboard prior to use.

Each front swing away door features ventilation slots that encompass the entire front bezel design and cool every aspect of the external drive bays. The inside portion of the swing away doors includes an air filter. The air filter aids in keeping dust from entering inside the case and can be easily removed to be cleaned and re-used.
