In order to gain access to the case interior, all that is required is to remove two 6-32 mounting screws on each side as well as thumbscrew in the rear. Once the top panel has been removed, a view of the interior reveals that the case is both spacious and well laid out. Towards the front of the case is the location of the external 5.25" and 3.5" drive bays that are positioned below a metal cross bar that provides stability for the case.

The I-Star Storm Series D-300 has good storage capabilities for 3U case thanks to dual drive mounting cages which exist on both the left and right hand sides of the case. These drive cages are secured by 6-32 mounting screws and are completely removable. As previously mentioned, consumers can install four external 5.25" device and two 3.5" devices. While maximizing all the storage capabilities is sure to generate more additional heat, I-Star hasn't added any cooling fans to this area other than the ventilation holes located on the case exterior.
