Out of the packaging, my first impressions of the YP-U1 USB Drive Music Player were very positive. The YP-U1 carries a very small footprint at 23.8mm (W) x 87.8mm (H) x 13.5mm (D) and is a light weight portable unit at 30g. The exterior of the YP-U1 consists of a plastic and aluminum black/silver design coupled with the reflective front portion. The Samsung YP-U1 USB Drive Music Player has a capacity of 1GB of internal flash memory and is capable of playing MP3, WMA, Secure WMA, WAV and OGG formats. Additional features include a microphone for recording voice directly to the internal flash memory, 4-line LCD, EQ Pre-sets, Bass Booster and 13 hours of playback time on a single rechargeable Li-polymer battery.

To the right of the unit is a 2-position switch that allows the YP-U1 to be placed temporarily on Hold. The Hold function simply prevents the use of any function of the YP-U1 until the switch is moved to the appropriate position. There are three additional buttons which control ON/OFF, play/pause, loop repeat and recording.

The YP-U1 USB Drive Music Player features an integrated 4-line LCD and an easy to use navigational button that controls all the functions for Play/Pause, Stop, Reverse-Skip and Forward-Skip. By selecting any of the player functions illuminates the LCD screen and allows consumers to toggle many of the built-in menu modes. Next to the navigation button is the location for the neck strap, microphone and headphone jack.

One of the unique features included with the YP-U1 is a quick release panel which conceals a built-in USB plug. The built-in USB plug allows you to interface this unit with a PC or recharge the unit using a standard USB 2.0 port. Recharge times are very quick and there is a visual indication that is displayed on the main LCD screen when the unit is ready to be used.
