I-Star USA

The consumer market these days is overflowing with a large array of computer cases. Deciding what case to purchase depends on three main things such as appearance, functionality, and lastly price. As case manufacturers struggle to come up with unique styles, most manufacturers miss out on building quality cases with great functionality at a reasonable price. Today in the MTB labs we will be evaluating the Nitro AX Full Tower Case from I-Star that blends quality, style, functionality at an affordable price

I-Star is a company that designs and manufactures computer towers, server racks, and removable hard drive enclosures under their own name or as an O.E.M manufacturer for other companies such as Kingston's Storage Product Division (SPD) sister company StorCase Technology.

The Storm Series is the latest in high-end tower enclosures available on the market. The Nitro AX (S-10000) is offered in two different models to choose from in either silver or black. The L models are deeper, and therefore support E-ATX, and are expected to be released in January or early February. Here are the specs taken directly from the I-Star website:

The box that the Nitro Ax comes in, features a picture of the two color options on the front, and pictures on the back showing the inner layout of the case, as well as some of the cases key points. The front picture shows the black case with a silver bezel, this had been revised that all black models are now being sold with an all black front bezel.

The sides of the box provide a breakdown of the specifications, choice of available colours (red, yellow, and blue which are not available in North America) as well as optional PSU and wattage rating. Protection of the case comes in the way of the usual foam blocks and plastic bag wrap. There is a peel off strip of cellophane across the front aluminum bezel to help protect it from scratches. My box looked like it had fallen off the shipping truck a couple of times; breaking the foam blocks and causing some abrasion scuffs on the cellophane strip, and luckily the case had escaped without damage.

Inside the case you will find the manual, and a box that contains all of the hardware for mounting your motherboard, hard drives, and optical devices. There are also two keys for the lockable side panel, as well as the CPU air duct vent, designed to meet Intel Prescott CPU TA38 requirement.
