Act-On

Introduction:

Act-On is a relatively new company based in California with exclusive rights to ATLabs optical pointing technologies. Founded November 2004 in Santa Clara, California as a product/application development and marketing company specialized in human input devices for computers and consumer electronics. One such product is the new MicMouse which comes with a built-in microphone that allows users to communicate using PC-based VoIP around the globe without the high cost of long distance calls. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the new Act-On ADM 0520 MicMouse; a patented high precision mouse with a built in microphone for use in VoIP and team based online gaming applications.

The Act-On ADM 0520 MicMouse is a high precision corded USB optical mouse with 3 buttons, a scroll wheel and built in microphone. The following specifications were taken directly from the Act-On web site:

The Act-On ADM 0520 MicMouse arrived in good form, featuring red and black coloring in blister packaging. The mouse is displayed prominently on the front, with features and specifications printed on the back. This is suitable for ‘on the shelf’ retail outlets.

The casing opens easily, and I’m thankful I didn’t have to break out the scissors as is common with this style of packaging. An inventory of the MicMouse yields the following:

The Act-On ADM 0520 MicMouse is your standard 800dpi optical USB mouse. It is extremely lightweight and comfortable to use. Pointing is precise and this mouse can easily take over as your primary pointing device. What makes the MicMouse unique is its onboard omni directional microphone. The microphone is positioned on the top of the mouse just back of the scroll wheel.
