This is my first venture into evaluating external enclosures so my initial impression was a positive one. The Luxon LUX-350SA IDE & SATA 3.5" External HDD Enclosure has a nice look and finish to it. A quick glance over the users manual revealed several grammar mistakes but it is thoroughly written and easy to follow. The Luxon came equipped with all of the needed hardware to connect it to your PC using SATA or USB, and even includes an Allen type screwdriver and a cleaning cloth.

Installing the drive of your choice into the Luxon is a very straightforward process that can be completed in 15 minutes. The first thing you will need to do is to set the jumpers according to the hard disk’s interface, either IDE or SATA. There is a sticker located in the enclosure where the hard drive mounts, or you can find this information in the owner’s manual as well.

Once that is done the next step is to install the hard drive, and the appropriate wiring connectors. The inner portion of the Luxon is made from plastic with a thin steel plate insert. One of the inserts corners touches the outer housing to provide a grounding point to help eliminate any Electro Static Discharge, also known as E.S.D.
