MODTHEBOX would like to thank Maggie from VIZO Technology for sending the VIZO MTP-101 Master Panel for review.

VIZO Technology

Introduction:

External hard drive enclosures currently offer consumers a very inexpensive method of transporting important data from one location to another. One of the unique aspects of the technology is the low cost factor and cross platform compatibility between different platforms. Most of these enclosures use USB 2.0 as the means of transfer, while some do employ SATA connectivity. The advantage of SATA over USB is transfer speed, but the drawback is the difficulty in gaining access to the SATA headers on the motherboard or rear ports on the back of the computer. One company attempting to alleviate this headache is the VIZO Technology Corp with its new Master Panel high-speed interface. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the new MTP-101 Master Panel, a product designed to relocate IDE and SATA ports to the front of the computer.

Specifications:

The VIZO MTP-101 Master Panel is a 5.25" device that combines IDE & SATA transfer ability through IDE and Serial ATA interface. The Master Panel has a great way to give the convenience of accessing between devices to desktop PC (ex. HDD, CD-ROM etc.) without a mess of cables and wires in your PC. The MTP-101 Master Panel is available in three color options which include black, white and grey. Here are some specifications taken directly from the VIZO Technology website:

The VIZO MTP-101 Master Panel arrived in a simple retail box with a clear view front window showing the product, and descriptive text written on both the front and the back of the package.

The VIZO MTP-101 Master Panel comes with an owner’s manual, package of screws, SATA, cable, and a SATA and IDE hybrid power cable. The owner’s manual is of little use to the average user, and it is poorly written.

Out of the box, my initial impression of the VIZO MTP-101 Master Panel was extremely positive. The unit sports a clear lexan type front trim panel that appears to be backside painted with gloss black paint, giving it a slightly elegant look. The main support bracket is made from thick steel providing a solid support and added protection for the PCB. Both of these characteristics along with the fitment of the connectors on the front denote a high level of quality for this product.
