Introduction:
Our culture thrives on entertainment and this ideology can certainly be associated with the computer
gaming generation. We have witnessed an explosive growth in the video game market ranging from console boxes
to personal PC's. Quite often this growth can influence our purchasing habits and as games become more
advanced, so does the demand to have the latest and greatest computer hardware. In order to succeed in
any high octane PC FPS type game requires good reflexes and the right equipment. Banking on this theory
is Samsung Electronics with the introduction of the latest SyncMaster branded LCD-TFT monitors to hit the
market. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the Samsung SyncMaster 204B, a mid-range LCD-TFT
20" monitor that offers a low response time of 5ms.
Specifications:
The 204B TFT-LCD Monitor is one of many available LCD based monitors available from Samsung Canada. This
product is part of the popular SyncMaster series and incorporates a thin bezel, circular base and

The Samsung SyncMaster 204B TFT-LCD Monitor ships in a double wall cardboard box with a plastic carry-on
handle positioned on the top. A product shot is showcased on the top and side panels, along with a
complete list of specifications and features. Inside the package the SyncMaster 204B was packed
between two formed pieces of polystyrene and enclosed in a sealed protective plastic bag.

The Samsung SyncMaster 204B TFT-LCD Monitor is bundled with one standard 15-pin D-sub VGA cable and
a power cable. While the product specifications state that the 204B supports DVI-D, no DVI cable was
included in the package. Also missing from the package was a VESA 100mm Wall Mounting Kit which Samsung
lists as a separate add-on that must be purchased for those consumers who wish to wall mount this unit.
The SyncMaster 204B TFT-LCD Monitor also includes a smaller plastic bag which contains an assortment of
items. The included CD contains the TFT-LCD monitor user guide, installation drivers and an assortment
of application software. The application software includes Natural Color, Magic Tune and Magic Rotation.
The Natural Color application software allows you to manually adjust display optimization, colour adjustment
and colour preference settings all from your desktop. Magic Tune is essentially the software equivalent
of the On Screen Display Menu which allows you to customize monitor settings from your desktop. Magic
Rotation replaces the previously bundled Pivot Pro software from Portrait Displays, Inc. and allows you
adjust the rotation of the screen (0°, 90°, 180°, 270° orientation) automatically using a simple point
and click of your mouse. A four page quick set-up guide covers the driver installation for different O/S
platforms ranging from all flavours of Windows to Linux.
