MODTHEBOX would like to thank Rolf from Spire Cooling Solutions for sending the Spire SP741B3 DiamondCool II HSF Cooler for review.

Fanner Tech

Introduction:

There are many applications that can stress the processor and raise temperatures, but if you had a home entertainment center which included a personal computer component, fan noise could diminish the entire experience. The personal computers of today are slightly different from the previous generation of PC's. Today's PC's are used for a wide variety of tasks in so many different scenarios. For those consumers who hate fan noise but still want modest performance there is now a silent alternative. Founded in 1991, Spire represents a premier brand for computer thermal solutions with established production facilities in China. The company provides a wide selection of thermal products designed to handle higher temperatures and provide moderate level performance in a whisper quiet environment. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the Spire SP741B3 DiamondCool II HSF Cooler.

The Spire SP741B3 DiamondCool II HSF Cooler is an all copper heatsink with four thermally improved heat-pipes leading up to 55 stamped copper micro-fins providing the optimal cooling configuration. Here are some specifications taken directly from the Spire Cooling Solutions website:

Included in the package were an instruction manual, a small tube of Stars 420 thermal paste, and an aluminum mounting plate. Out of the packaging, the SP741B3 DiamondCool II HSF Cooler rivals the heavy construction of some brand name coolers currently on the market. The SP741B3 DiamondCool II measures approximately 89mm (L) × 80mm (W) × 53mm (H) and has been exclusively designed to strike a balance between desktop cooling and silent performance. The SP741B3 DiamondCool II HSF Cooler supports all AMD K8 based micro-processors including Dual-Core M2 and FX-60.

A closer examination of the SP741B3 DiamondCool II reveals that the cooler is constructed entirely out of copper and is enclosed aluminum based fan shroud. The fan shroud has 4 pre-drilled mounting holes in each corner to keep the 90mm fan stationary. The SP741B3 DiamondCool II has introduces 4 embedded heat-pipes for enhanced thermal cooling as well as 55 stamped micro-fins which optimize the airflow and prevent obstruction. The base plate and fins are constructed out of copper by cutting the material in thin layers and bending the fins in place.
