MODTHEBOX would like to thank Grant from Kingwin for sending the Supernova HTPC Case for review.

Kingwin is a company that requires little introduction. They have a long standing history of making some quality computer cases at an affordable price. I always found Kingwin to focus primarily on quality and features, rather than flash and gimmicks. As the home theatre personal computer (HTPC) market grows, so does the need for stylish, affordable, quality cases and Kingwin is joining this growing sector of the marketplace with its first HTPC offering. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating Kingwin’s first HTPC enclosure known as the Supernova.

Kingwin was founded in 1992 as a manufacturer specialized in designing and manufacturing CPU Coolers and Mobile racks. The company has been producing top quality thermal solutions and storage products for both OEM and ODM. The Supernova is a complete home media center case that is constructed from aluminum material and includes a built in full function LCD display. Here are some features and specifications taken directly from the Kingwin website:

The Kingwin Supernova HTPC Case comes in a heavy duty tangerine colored corrugated box. The pictures on the front and back of the box show the two colour options of silver or black. The inset pictures highlight some of the cases main features. The sides of the box have printed text that denotes the features and specifications of the Supernova case. There is also a convenient carry handle on the top portion of the box.

The inner packaging is made from softer sponge type foam instead of the hard Styrofoam inserts. This type of inner protection seems to be more forgiving as it provides a better cushion to protect the case, even if the outer cardboard box is damaged due to shipping abuse. In the past I have received cases that the outer box was damaged and the inner hard type Styrofoam inserts were damaged as well as the case. Although this box did show signs of a rough journey, the case and inner packaging came away unscathed. As an added piece of protection the Supernova is wrapped in a thick plastic wrap, it is apparent that Kingwin has given some thought into protecting this case during shipping.
