The sides of the Supernova HTPC Case are constructed from 1/2 inch extruded aluminum that provides strength while keeping the weight down. The rear of the case is also made from aluminum except for the motherboard I/O plate and PCI area which is made from steel. There are two 60mm fans to help extract the heat that were surprisingly quiet when tested in silence on the bench. The Supernova uses a full sized ATX spec PSU which is not included giving the end user the option to use a PSU of their choice.

Access to the inside of the case is gained by removing the top panel; this is accomplished by removing six Phillips heads screws. In fact the whole case is modular and held together with screws instead of rivets. Considering its smaller size compared to some HTPC cases, the Supernova looks nice and roomy on the inside. Notice that the inside area and all drive cages are painted black, a nice finishing touch from Kingwin.

As the LCD display, power output level LED's, and volume control knob features of this case, are driven by USB there is a fair amount of extra cables. There are two USB, one IEEE1394 and one audio header connector. If you do not have enough USB headers on your motherboard, Kingwin supplies an adapter to convert the header connector to a standard male USB connector that can be connected to the USB connectors on the back of your motherboard.
